Mutsumi Style: Kichen Remodel Update vol.12 -Making the Island.

Okay, so I haven't updated our kitchen status for a long time. It is done, even back in October, but I was just burned out. It was really hard and stressful, and I couldn't power through documenting it. The last update was about putting the back splash and cabinets on the other side of kitchen. Then, we moved on to the island.

実は、キッチンのリフォームはとっくに終わっています。よほど激しい労働からくる燃え尽き症候群なのか、ただの怠け者なのか、ブログはサボり続けておりました。今日から少しずつ書いていこうかな、と思います。

We had to custom make this cabinet over the refrigerator in order to put the dividing wall up against it. Maybe, you don't know what I am talking about. You can see at the end.

さて、前回はカウンターの向こう側の壁にタイルを貼って、キャビネットを取り付けたところまででした。今回はキッチンアイランドに移ります。まず、その前に、この冷蔵庫の上の棚を作り取り付けます。市販のものでは、この棚の横に取り付ける壁ができないので、カスタムメイドになりました。なんの事だかさっぱり、という人は最後で分かります。

Sorry. I didn't take any pictures for building the island. After these cabinets were in place, the gas line needed to be moved. My handy husband even can work on gas plumbing!

おっと、アイランド製作の写真が一枚もない。

キャビネットを取り付けたら、ガスパイプの移動です。50ｃｍ位の移動ですが、こんなことまで出来るようになった夫。

The counter top, which is IKEA's LAGAN got installed. The counter top comes in sheets of 96 7/8 " x 25 5/8 ", so we had to use three pieces attached together with nice craftsmanship and enforcement underneath. Then, the corners were rounded.

カウンタートップはＩＫＥＡのＬＡＧＡＮ。大きさが246ｘ65ｃｍなので数枚をはぎ合わせて、下から補強して取り付けました。角は落とし、丸くします。

The dividing wall next to the refrigerator I was talking about earlier is up. You can see it on the other side of the island.
先程の冷蔵庫の横の壁はカウンターの奥に見えます。

IKEA sells the back board for the island, but it cost $115 (if my memory is right). It's just particle board. We made it with regular plywood and thin plywood used to make hollow doors. I stained it an espresso color with multiple coats of a good satin polyethylene, so it just looks same to the other IKEA made parts of kitchen.
アイランドの後ろ側のボードはＩＫＥＡで購入することも検討しましたが、ただのコーティングしてあるボードが私の記憶が正しければ115ドルもしていてびっくり。私達はホームセンターで買った木のボードと少し上等なベニヤを使って作りました。絵の具を混ぜるように、ペンキを混ぜ合わせてキャビネットと同じエスプレッソ色に染めます。その後、サテンのニスを何度もかけて、全く同じに仕上がったぞ。私個人のポイントとしては、ニスは値段が高くても質のいい物の方が、断然いい。何を仕上げるのも、重宝しています。
