Texturing wall.

8年半前にこの家を購入したとき、リビングルームと廊下の壁はスパイク状でした。もたれかかると刺さるし、ちょっとぶつかるとすり傷になるし、埃が壁に引っかかっているのが目視できるし。で、引越しする前にまずした事が、スパイクを削り落とすこと。その当時は、それ以外にも床を張り替えたり、内装工事があったのでそのままペンキを塗って終わったのですが、最近になって、やっとこさ左官しなおしました。この、皮膚病にかかったみたいな壁。
When we first moved ino this house almost 9 years ago, the walls in the main part were textured with sharp spikes.  They stabbed or scraped us every time we passed by.  We scraped off the needles and painted over them before moving in.  Now, it's time to fix this ugly wall.     

まずはこれを使って、壁全体をコーティングします。
First, we coated the wall with this.
 

次に、このドライブラシを使って、半円形に模様をつけていきます。本職の方がどのようにお仕事をするのかも、このブラシが正しいのかも不明ですが、DIY,　自分達のお家なのでこれでよし。本番一発で、上の模様を見ながら平行になるように作っていくのは少し大変。
Then, I textured them with this brush.  I don't really know how the professionals use it, but I just make overlapping half circles one after another.

乾くのに、気候や温度にもよりますが、丸一日から二日はかかります。その間、何度タッチアップしたことやら。ちびっ子達、どうしても触ってしまいます。
When texturing is done, it takes at least 24 hours to dry, depending on temperature and humidity.  I don't know how many times we had to fix it after the kids accidentally touched it.

乾いたら、専用の下地を塗ってから、ペンキを2度塗りして完成。60年前の壁もきれいになりました。気持ちいい！
When it's completely dry, I used drywall primer before adding two coats of paint.
After 3 coats of paint, it looks like this. 

And, this is an extra.
A bucket of semi-gloss glaze splashed up on my head and face when I was mixing it with 5 gallons of paint. The wire handle broke, the next thing I know was I couldn't open my eyes.  However, the mixing paint mission needed to be complete, so I kept going.  After 20 min, my hair was completely dried solid, and my eye lids and mouth were glued shut.  To clean up in the shower, I had to use a comb for newborn babies to scrap the dried glaze off.

そして、これはおまけ。

5ガロンのペンキに1ガロンのペンキを混ぜ合わせていたら、容器の取っ手が切れてドッボーンと落下。塗料をハーフガロン（2ｌくらい）頭から、いえ顔からかぶってしまいました。途中で止めるわけにもいかず、20分後、カピカピに。まぶたもリップも閉じたまま開かず・・・下を向いて作業していたのがよく分かる感じで髪もそのまま固まり・・・口もよく開かないのですが、笑うしかない、そんな思い出です。かぶったのが無色で良かったぁ。
