Day camp.

また少し夏らしくなってきましたが、みんな風邪気味だったので、親戚のお庭でデイキャンプをしました。車で一時間半北上した所に住んでいらっしゃる叔母様、もともとはロサンゼルス出身でディズニーの映画を作っていらしゃったスーパーキャリアの持ち主なのですが、引退後、こんなマイナスイオン満載な森の中でやりたかった事を思う存分して楽しんでいらっしゃいます。家族がそばに住んでいない私たちにとって、とっても大切な人たち。

 キャンプファイアーでマシュマロも焼きましょ。

 グラハムクラッカー、板チョコ、ちょっと焦げたマシュマロでスモア。のどが痛くなる甘さ。

S'mores.  This is very American food to me. I have a sweet tooth, but this sugar on top of sugar hurts my throat.

アマリはハンモックに揺られたり、ブランコに乗ったり、トランプを教えてもらったり。夏休みで一番楽しい思い出になりました。おじ様、おば様に感謝、感謝！

This was the best day this summer.  We love auntie K and uncle P.  When we arrived, the fire was going, tiki torches were fired up, the hammock was waiting for us, and they even did camp shopping for us.  I almost feel like I was visiting my parents', although my parents live in the middle of a city.  Thank you!!!

悪事の数々。

This guy figured out how to open the gate to go upstairs.  He came down stairs with a dripping wet toilet brush.  As I cleaned up the floors, there was a whole roll of toilet tissue stuffed in the toilet bowl.  The next morning, he escaped from our bed, then woke me up before 7am.  He was drenched wet.  He ran to the bathroom, then fell by slipping on the floor to his back.  Our bathroom was not only wet, but it was a lake.  It was all toilet water.  Again, the brand new toilet tissue was empty, moreover, I saw the two hand towels were in the toilet along with melted tissue.  I could see more as my body woke up. He, the wall, floor...everything was covered with melted tissue and wet.  I am not a morning person at all.  I am somehow irritated in the morning for no reason.  This morning, my anger hit the top of my limit.  I yelled at him almost violently for 30 min while I was cleaning and gave him a shower, then I found out the window was open. I'm glad nobody called police.  Well, he is over a handful. 

モンスター君のために階段の下と上に二つゲートがついているのですが、最近、軽々と開けるようになってしまいました。ついこの間も、水を滴らせてトイレのブラシを持ってキッチンに登場。もしかして、と思ったらもしかして。2階のトイレ、トイレットペーパーが詰まり、流れない状態に。その翌日、ずぶ濡れのやんちゃ君が朝7時前にベッドに登場。すごーく嫌な予感を胸に洗面所へ。「イェーイ！」とやんちゃ君、脇を駆け抜けていったと思ったら、思いっきりスッテンころりん。バスルームが水浸し、というか湖でした。目が覚めてきてよく見ると、壁も床もやんちゃ君もとろけたティッシュがべっとり。トイレには溶ろけたトイレットペーペーが丸ごと1本、タオルが2本、そしてお掃除ブラシが突き刺さった状態に。
こんな毎日。君の後片付けが終わるのは毎晩夜中だよ。

I just want SUMMER.

やっと来たと思った夏、２週間ほどで去っていきました。世界各地を厳しすぎる猛暑が襲っているというのに、かつて経験したことのない冷えこみ具合。この後、水遊びした子供達は長袖だし、プールも一度も出してないし、海は寒すぎていけないし、キャンプも中止。気分落ち込むなぁ。

気分だけでもキャンプファイアー。すいかをBBQ。

 

Did we have Summer, yet?  Am I living where there are only fall, winter and bits of spring?

Kichen Remodel Update vol.4.-Beam is up-

The beam is in.  It was super hard to putting this in our house.  It weighs tons.  Several times, I thought we would break our house, or I would get killed by it.  We pushed it up halfway through, but it didn't go anywhere.  When Ryan ran to get big help from our nicest neighbor, the beam rested on top of the refridge and my shoulder.  I was breathing like mosquitoes.  Anyway, it's up!  Ryan handmade this beam with two reasons.  It's expensive to buy one from the lumber store, and those ones don't match what we already have in our living room.  I'm excited about the look of different colored wood in between the two beams.  I haven't decided to dye it whitish or dark...what do you think?

柱と壁を全部取り払って、梁が入りました。梁は市販のものを材木屋さんから購入すると高いのと、家に現在ある梁との仕上がりが違ってしまう理由で手作りです。本来、屋根裏や軒下に入れる物なので、丈夫ですが、取り付けるのに一苦労どころか、死に物狂いでした。半端じゃない重さで。近所のお友達に手伝ってもらって男二人、微力な私、そして車のジャッキまで出動でした。子供達は、またもや避難。さて、仕上げはどうしよう。まだ、白めに染めるか、黒めに染めるか決めていません。キッチンが仕上がってから決めようと思います。

Pants to Shorts.

I have had these pants for over 20 years!  It's 50% silk and 50 % linen, and they cost over $100!  There is no way I want to spend this much for me at this point in my life...Through out my life, still now?, my aunt takes me clothes shopping, when it happens she buys super nice things.  I couldn't get these pants out of my closet, although I grew a bit, and they became ankle length. So, I cut them.  Then made side and back pockets.  Here they are: new cargo shots.  I like this length since I am really short.  There is one more thing I want to do though.  The waist is high, so I want to lower it.  I'm thinking about having my mom do it next time she visits.   

高校生の時に叔母に買ってもらった、シルク５０％麻５０％のパンツ。一万円を超えていて高校生の私でも、えっ、いいの？と思ったくらい贅沢パンツ。はきこなして色もあせてしまったし、なにより背が少し伸びてアンクル丈になってしまったけど、捨てられずクローゼットに眠っていたので、20年越しに引っ張り出してリメイク。まず、裾を切って解体。そこで三つ折り縫いの部分はそのままポケットを4枚つくります。サイドポケットは蓋付きで。丁寧に縫いつけて、できあがり！７分丈のカーゴショーツ。ハイウエストに時代を感じますが、次に母が来た時に直してもらおう。勝手に人任せな仕上げですが・・・。
