First grade in Japan.

ふー。やっと週末。ブログの更新がとーっても滞っている訳は・・・

アメリカの学校が夏休みに入ったとたんに、朝はサマーキャンプ午後はスイミングをこなしつつスーツケースをパッキングし、日本に来たとたんに、諸々の手続きをして必要なものを買いそろえて、ｱﾏﾘは小学校に通っています。上履きも、給食も、『前ならえ』も、何もかもすべてが初めてのｱﾏﾘに付き添って、私も一緒に学校生活。初めての保護者会にも出席させてもらったりして、大緊張の連続です。でもでも、子供のパワーはすごい。初日にして早速クラスのお友達と仲良くなって、楽しくて嬉しい学校生活を送っています。写真は、他の児童が写らないように、学校に許可をいただいて少しだけ撮らせてもらいました。

As soon as we landed in Japan, Amalie started going to Japanese elementary school.  The school year starts in April, so she is already in the first grade here.  Everything is a completely new experience, but ever since the first day, her classmates have been helping her from A to Z.  In the morning, as soon as we are on the street, someone finds Amalie and holds her hand while walking to school.  I was at school all day for the first day, then in and out for the rest of the week, but it seems like I don't need to go at all for the next week.  She is enjoying the school lunch, cleaning, PE (a swimming pool is on top of the roof), unicycling, of course studying and mostly her new friends.

私も試食させてもらった給食。家庭的で優しいお味でおいしかったです。健康的で感動しました。食育って大切ですよね。食べるのが、カメさん並のｱﾏﾘもお友達につられてさっさと完食したのには、もっと驚きました。

This is the school lunch.  Teriyaki chicken, vegetable and egg stir fry, potato and onion miso soup, and milk.  It isn't over seasoned, and it is super healthy.  I was impressed.  What made me more surprised was that Amalie ate it all really fast, like the other kids.

そして、カルチャーショックというか、なつかしいというか、さすが東京というか、教室から見える景色がこれ。母いわく、一年生の教室は避難がすぐにできるように表通りに面しているのだとか。それ、本当？グラウンドも地面ではなくて、よく考えるとアメリカの家を出発して以来、土を踏んでいないかも。

I don't know if it's true, but my mom says the first grader's classroom is facing the main street in case of emergency.  Anyway, I was thinking we haven't even stepped in any dirt at all ever since we left our home in the US.  The school grounds is a pink and green rubber thing.  I need to take kids to the park at some point this weekend, don't you think?
