It's not quite the actual Thomas, but he believes this is it. :)

Then, he continued with what he wants:
"And bus, and um um um pirate boat."

「何がいい？」と聞くと、やっぱり「トーマス。」
トーマスにはほど遠くなってしまったけど、これでいいかな？
そして、
「バスとぉ、かいぞくせんとぉ。」と乗り物が続くので、

最後に、彼が本の中から選んだ一番のお気に入りは、

「ピッピちゃん。」

もう3歳だし、一応男の子だし、「ねぇ、モンキーがかわいいよ。」とか「ペンギンもかっこいいかも。」と交渉してみたけど、「やだ！ピッピちゃん！！！」ってがんばるし、夫までもが「本人の好きなのにしてやれよ。」みたいな事を言ってくるので、かわいい『ピッピちゃん』に決まり。

Then, this chick.  I tried to convince him to go with a monkey, penguin or something more boy-ish, not baby-ish, but he insisted he only wants this.  And, from behind the couch, my husband interrupted, and said "Mu, just do what he wants.  This is his, not yours."  Ha, I am the one making this happen.  Don't forget it!, but maybe he is right, Oh-kay; so, Luther gets a lovely chick on his undie.  

Yes, I embroidered on underwear.  

何に刺繍したのかはね、パンツです。

ルーサー君大喜びで、毎日お風呂のあとに見せにきてくれるんです。パンツに刺繍させてもらえるのも、こうして写真を撮らせてもらえるのも、もうじき終わっちゃうんだろうな。

Luther loves them so much.  Every day, after his bath, he comes to the kitchen and tells me which one he is wearing.  He makes me so happy!  At the same time, knowing that he is growing out of this cuteness into real boy stuff, which makes me feel a bit of sadness.  Luther, thank you for letting me do cute things with your undies.

Painting on IKEA umbrella.

I've been looking for a small, easy, safe, light and cheap umbrella for Luther, and we ended up buying this IKEA $2.99 umbrella.

子供用の小さくて、安全で、軽くて、安い傘ってなかなかないんですよね。ルーサー君用なので、壊されるのを前提に安くなくてはならなくて・・・。で、見つけたのがこのIKEAの傘。２ドル９９セント。

This one has a really long and pointy end, so at first, my husband attached a champagne cork.

でも、これ、先端がとても長くてとがっているんです。考えたあげく、夫がシャンパンのコルクを取り付けてくれました。

Luther chose orange.  It took me several days to brainstorm what I can do to make it cuter.

オレンジ色の傘、どうしたらキュートになるんだろう。ルーサーのリクエストはやっぱりトーマスなんです。

I traced a template. Then, I painted over the IKEA logo with acrylic paint.

鉛筆で下書きをしたら、あとはアクリル絵の具で塗っていくだけ。使用したアクリル絵の具は、絵画用の少し良い物を使いました。白いのが少し写っていますが、これは安い絵の具でイマイチかもしれません。

ルーサーのお昼寝中、静まり返った家の中で製作中。楽しいな。こんなこと、お仕事にできたらいいのにな。

Luther was SUPER excited to have his own umbrella = official stick he can carry around.  We took a walk downtown to just get a chocolate milk, of course it wasn't raining, but here he is.

ルーサーは、もちろん大喜び。自分の傘ですもの。ううん、持って歩いても許される棒がうれしいのかもしれませんけど＾＾。
さっそく、ダウンタウンにお散歩。雨は降っていませんが、もちろんずっと傘。
一年間、皆勤賞だったアマリにネックレスを買って、ﾙｰｻｰとチョコレートﾐﾙｸを（私はコーヒーですが）飲んで帰ってきました。幸せ時間。

父の日のプレゼント製作中です。

そして、今日。
『Happy papa's day~!』

アマリはパパの大好きなバスケットボールの絵を描き、ルーサーは絵の具をひたすらしぼり出してはぐるぐる塗って『マウンテン』を描いていたところに、顔を描きました。

私は、できる事はこれしかないので・・・。ごはん。
リクエストどおりにお昼は焼きそば。夜はピッツァでした。なんでもない普通のペパロ二ピッツァと、もうひとつはモッツァレラチーズとゴルゴンゾーラにアーティチョークとサンドライトマトにシソです。自分で言うのもなんですが、すごーくおいしかったです。オーブンでいっしょに焼いたとうもろこしが、あまーくておいしくて。さくらんぼは、お庭から採れたてです。勢いよく食べておなかいっぱい＾＾

"Mama's tea lotion"

手作りローション、とてもいいです。

Edible skin lotion.  It's pretty good!

化粧水はいつも日本に帰国したときに買ってくるのですけど、帰国寸前に切れてしまいました。で、作ってみました。いろいろ調べて、自分流にアレンジして。

レシピはこれ。
ローズマリーといっしょに濃ーく入れた60ｍｌのハーブティーに（といっても、ざくろのお茶はホワイトティ＾＾）、グリセリンとざくろをつけたウォッカを小さじ１づつ。ざくろのホワイトティにはハイビスカスやレモングラスも入っています。

最初に手首の内側でアレルギーテストをして、早速使ってみると、とっても良いんです。使った後、しっとり。保存剤は入っていないので、１週間で使い切らないといけないので、ジャバジャバ全身に使えます。子供たちも、お顔と手にジャバジャバ。何もしなくてもツルツルのお肌に、ローションつけたらもっとマシュマロみたいなホッペは、不公平＾＾

このティーローションに切り替えちゃおうかな。

I always buy skin lotion in Japan, but it all ran out before my next trip.  So, I gave creating my own a try after finding a few recipes online.  I didn't think it would work at all; I mean, I didn't want to go cheapskate on my skin even though I make lots of stuff from scratch. Surprisingly, it's so great!  It's basically a thick herb tea, some other kinds of herbs, I even used pomegranate white tea with hibiscus and lemon grass, a teaspoon of rice wine (I used vodka with pomegranate seeds which I made a year ago ) and a teaspoon of good glycerin.  You have to use up the lotion within a week.  There are no additives.  My kids are using it for their face and hands even though they have extremely sensitive and dry skin.  I am seriously thinking about stopping spending money on skin lotion and keep using this.  OR, is that too extreme?!

この一週間で、冬が春になりました。
お庭のお花もみんな咲き始めて、気持ちもほんわか~。ただ、アレルギーもすごいんです。親子ではくしょん、はくしょん。くしゃみが止まりません。

明日はイースター。
今年は、卵を染められなかったので、去年たくさん作ったのを飾っています。
でも、アマリといっしょに、これ、作りました。

ぐりとぐらのたまごのくるま。

私のだいすきな絵本です。

小さい頃、母も同じようなのを作ってくれて嬉しかったんです。

ルーサーがお昼寝から起きてきたら、けんかになると思って、2台分。案の定、目ざとく見つけてました。この頃の二人は、なーんでも同じ。忙しい親としては難しい時もありますよね。

Play-Doh treats.

もうすぐ雛祭りです。週末におひなさまを飾りました。
ひしもちと和菓子。これ、じつは・・・

These decorations are for the upcoming Girl's Day.  The Japanese treats are on lacquer dishes...except you are not supposed to eat these ones.  They are play-doh.

After Amalie made slabs and stacked them on top of each other, I cut the "rice cake" into a diamond shape with a kitchen knife.  Since it's homemade play-doh, it's nice to not have to worry about the safety of toxic materials, or if Luther sneaks a taste of the dough.  It was a really fun project to do with the kids.  I loved it.

ここからは、粘土細工です。

本物に見えるかな。ひしもちは、三色積み重ねてから包丁で切りそろえました。食品からできた粘土なので、包丁はきれいに洗えば大丈夫。 万が一、ルーサーが口に入れてしまっても、おいしくないと思うけど、大丈夫＾＾

プレイドウ

小麦粉　2カップ（480ｃｃ）

塩　　　1カップ（240ｃｃ）

水　　　13/4カップ（420ｃｃ）

サラダ油　大さじ2

クリームオブターター　大さじ1

お鍋に全部入れて、木べらでかき混ぜながら火にかけて、粘土っぽくなってきたら火から降ろして更に手でこねます。

 

Play-Doh

2 cups flour 

1 cup salt 

1 3/4 cups water

2 tbsp oil

1 tbsp cream of tartar 

Cook them all together in a pot until it looks playdough-like. Then kneed more.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Before we had sweet treats, I helped with my daughter's Valentines.  She wanted to do origami flowers for her classmates and teachers. Good idea!  I was curious if there was someone special?  but, everyone's were the exact same this year.

今年も、ぎりぎり前日、娘のバレンタインを手伝いました。
折り紙にキャンディーを添えて、クラスのお友達全員と先生に。 みんながみんなにあげるシステム、いいですよね。まだ、『特別』はいないみたいですけど。今朝、週末に作ったバレンタインメイルボックスを持って、ルンルンで出かけていきました。

We have a plan tonight (I hoped for a romantic one, but it's just a meeting at the hospital), so we had a chocolate party last night.  

今夜は病院にいかなきゃ行けないので、昨日の夜、デザートでお祝いしました。やっぱり、チョコレート大好き。

I love these chocolate covered strawberries, but the kids love these chocolate covered marshmallows.  Sugar on sugar!

Have a sweet Valentine's Day!

私はイチゴのチョコレートがけが好きなんですけど、子供たちはこれが大好き。マシュマロのチョコレートがけです。白いのはローストしたココナッツ。お砂糖の塊りです。たまにはいいかな。

crayon hearts.

ハートのクレヨンを作ってみました。

It's been a while since I went through the crayon bin.  There were a bunch of broken thirds and halves.  I usually dump them in the trash can, but this time there were so many.  I think Luther might be using them pretty roughly, and he easily breaks them.

久しぶりにクレヨンの整理整頓。今まで短いクレヨンを見つけるたびに捨てていたんですけど、今回はたくさんあったので、（ルーサーが力まかせに使って折れてしまっているような気がしますけど・・・）

So, I put them in an IKEA ice tray.
 
色別にわけて、IKEAで買った今は使わない製氷機に入れて、

Then,  water bath in a pan.  

湯煎で溶かしてみました。

It melted pretty easily.  I used toothpicks to stir them.
 
途中、竹串でぐるぐるかき混ぜながら。

After cooling down, and un-molding them, here they are.  Crayon hearts.

冷えたら、ほら、できた。

It seems like they are easier to use for a brand new 3-year old boy.  He only picks heart crayons now.  It's a fun project.  Next time, I want to make marbled ones.  I regret all those bunches of crayons I already threw away...



3歳のルーサーには、この方が持ちやすいらしくて、今はこのハートのクレヨンばかり使っています。
なんだか、とても節約した気分。今まで捨ててきたクレヨン、とっておけば良かったー。 今度はマーブル模様にしたいな。

Red demon, blue demon.

In Japan, we celebrate the day before spring begins.  It's called setubun.  (If you are curious, check this article.) We throw soy beans to the outside saying "Demons out!", then throw beans to inside while saying "Luck inside!"  Holly tree and sardine heads are supposed to keep bad luck away.  This year, I strongly prayed 'no more cancer and everyone's good health'.

節分でした。みんなの健康を強く念じながら、ヒイラギといわし（アマリが折り紙で折ってくれた金魚ですけど・・・）を 飾りました。どうか、病気はもう入ってきませんように。

そして、オニさん達です。赤オニさんは金棒と鎖についた鉄球まで作って本気です。

本気度が満点すぎて、やさぐれてます。

そして、ナイス青オニさん。オニのお面作れるなんてすごいじゃない！私はひたすら感動。夜ごはんの後、みんなで思いっきり豆まきをしました。本当に、心の底から願います。
