Sweet Mother's Day.

日曜日は母の日でしたね。
そんな日に限って、朝起きたら目が開かないほどの、ものもらいができてしまいました。毎週行く教会もお休みしたので、のんびり静かな朝を過ごせました。一番のプレゼントだな、と思いながらお花を生けたり、音楽聴いたり、本を読んだり。

今、庭のバラが一斉に咲き始めたんです。
バラの香りに包まれて幸せだなー。と思っていたら、

On Mother's Day, I woke up with my eye sealed shut.  A crazy red thing grew on my eye lid.  I thought people would be scared of me, so I stayed home by myself while everyone went to church.  It was actually the best gift.  A nice and quiet morning with a cup of coffee, my favorite music, and I made some flower arrangements for myself from our garden.

Then, these guys came home with a huge surprise.
Each of them chose their own flower bouquet for me.

びっくり。
お花を抱えた二人が帰ってきました。
自分達で選んだんですって。

うれしいなぁ。

アマリ、ルーサー、パパ、ありがとう！

Thank you guys!!!
Wow.  I love Amalie's choice.  I think she knows my taste :)  and, Luther chose red roses!  Is he gonna be a romantic and assertive guy?

アマリはアマリらしいアレンジメントを選んでくれたし、ルーサーが真っ赤なバラを選んだんだ、と思うと何だかすっごく頼もしくなってきて、ニタニタしながら花びんに活けました。

アマリとルーサーのママになれた事が一番嬉しい日です。

Children's (Boy's) Day.

端午の節句。こどもの日ですね。
アメリカは明日なので、何を作ってお祝いしようかな。

我が家の３才男は・・・
つい先日もこんな事になっていました。

Look at this!  
And, look at Luther's face!  He knows what he did was extremely bad.  He knows, yet, still he does it.  What's up with that?  Today, he shredded the front page of a book, which he just did the same thing as yesterday, so I sent him to timeout.  Then, he was spitting on the stairs...

悪いのが分かっている顔ですねぇ。悪い事をしているのが分かっているのに、やってしまうみたいです。毎日「オーマイガッド！」的な事が多々起こりますが・・・

My kids drive me nuts everyday...but, 

I love you guys.  
I'm always praying for your happy future, and I'm grateful for being able to raise you, sharing our lives together, and watching you get bigger and bigger.

Bunny on a rocket.

I'm so behind on everything recently.  I don't know if this is a side effect of my new medication, or I have just not recovered from my cancer treatment...but my days are so short with a lot of sleep at night and daytime naps.  Anyway, after I do all the work for everyday life, I don't have the time and energy for blogging or replying to emails from my friends.  Facebook is even missing from my book shelf.   It's not good.  So, I thought maybe I might be able to do more in the morning before I burn though all my energy, so I went to bed before 9 o'clock.  Guess what?  Morning was gone by the time I woke up, which was 8 am.  What's wrong with me?

By the way, here are some photos from two days ago.  The Easter bunny came again this year.  Luther believes he rides a rocket and shoot eggs down our yard.  I love that theory.

Guri and Gura.

この一週間で、冬が春になりました。
お庭のお花もみんな咲き始めて、気持ちもほんわか~。ただ、アレルギーもすごいんです。親子ではくしょん、はくしょん。くしゃみが止まりません。

明日はイースター。
今年は、卵を染められなかったので、去年たくさん作ったのを飾っています。
でも、アマリといっしょに、これ、作りました。

ぐりとぐらのたまごのくるま。

私のだいすきな絵本です。

小さい頃、母も同じようなのを作ってくれて嬉しかったんです。

ルーサーがお昼寝から起きてきたら、けんかになると思って、2台分。案の定、目ざとく見つけてました。この頃の二人は、なーんでも同じ。忙しい親としては難しい時もありますよね。

Day of Green.

昨日は、聖パトリックの祝日でした。 
なので、グリーンのごはん。メニューは、ほうれん草を練り込んだ四葉のクローパーのパン。緑のお野菜コールスロー。ゴルゴンゾーラとパセリのポテトサラダ、グリーンペッパーとブロッコリーのポタージュ。それから、緑じゃないけどローストビーフ。

Green dinner for St. Patrick's Day.

It's hard to tell, but we had spinach dinner rolls shaped like four leaf clovers, green coleslaw, blue cheese and parsley potato salad, green pepper and broccoli portage soup, and roast beef with daikon radish.  This potato salad is my friend's recipe, and hers tasted way better.  There was something missing from mine...

デザートも春らしい黄緑色を取り入れて。
タンジェリンとチョコレートのシフォンケーキ。最近、シフォンケーキにはまっています。ホワイトチョコレート、生クリーム、キウイ、そしてボンタンの皮のお砂糖漬けもいっしょに。おいしすぎて、ひとりで半分くらい食べてしまいました＾＾

この日は、お洋服もリボンもグリーン。

Lastly, 
A Trap for A Leprechaun.
Amalie put vegetable waste in the trap to lure him.  
Of course, he ate them, and he left some money behind.  The whole entire block of neighbors could probably hear her scream when she found those coins:)   Next year, she should really give something nicer, not veggie waste for the compost pile.

そして、聖パトリックの祝日といえばレプラコーン。緑の洋服をきた小人の妖精なんですけど、金貨のありかを知っているんですって。
アマリが作った罠。えさはなんと、野菜のくずです。もっと、いいものあげればいいのに・・・。

そして、レプラコーン、来たみたいですよ。大根もグレープフルーツも食べて、お金を置いていきました。裏庭から、「ぎゃー。マニー！マニー！」と、アマリの悲鳴。ご近所中に響き渡っていました。

Girls' Day.

It seems like we got spring earlier than normal.  The kids already picked a bouquet of daisies from our front yard.

今年は春が早く来ている様な気がします。お庭のデイジーも咲き始めています。子供たちが摘んできてくれました。

そして、これはプラムのつぼみ。2月中旬に木を剪定た時に、小枝を花びんにいけておいたんです。
プーと花芽が膨らんできたと思ったら、あっという間に咲きました。 私はこのつぼみの時が一番好きかも。

These are plum blossoms.  We trimmed our plum tree in the middle of February, then I brought the twigs inside.  After a few weeks, look!  We have spring in the house.
Although, I kind like those green buds right before they flower.

おひなさまのお祝いに、いろいろと食材を買っておいたんですけど、先週からちょっとしたDIYに取り掛かっていて手が離せなくて、お祝いディナーはお預けになってしまいました。子供たちは、母が作ってくれた手巻き寿司やローストビーフ、それと大好きなイチゴもたらふく食べて、喜んでいましたけど。いっしょに夜ごはんを食べることもできなくて、ごめんね。

桃の節句、これからもずっと、ずっと健やかでいられますように。
そして、ママもいっしょにお祝いしてあげられますように。

I went grocery shopping for Girls' Day celebration on Sunday.  But, it got postponed...We are doing a crazy DIY house remodel again ( I'll post the DIY later ), and my husband and I couldn't join them for dinner.  We were outside hearing giggling and crazy laughter every once in a while.  It seems like my mom and the kids had a sort of special dinner and desert. 

This year's Girls' Day, I just wish for Amalie's health throughout her life.  And, I wish I can be here to celebrate with her for many more years.

Red demon, blue demon.

In Japan, we celebrate the day before spring begins.  It's called setubun.  (If you are curious, check this article.) We throw soy beans to the outside saying "Demons out!", then throw beans to inside while saying "Luck inside!"  Holly tree and sardine heads are supposed to keep bad luck away.  This year, I strongly prayed 'no more cancer and everyone's good health'.

節分でした。みんなの健康を強く念じながら、ヒイラギといわし（アマリが折り紙で折ってくれた金魚ですけど・・・）を 飾りました。どうか、病気はもう入ってきませんように。

そして、オニさん達です。赤オニさんは金棒と鎖についた鉄球まで作って本気です。

本気度が満点すぎて、やさぐれてます。

そして、ナイス青オニさん。オニのお面作れるなんてすごいじゃない！私はひたすら感動。夜ごはんの後、みんなで思いっきり豆まきをしました。本当に、心の底から願います。
「鬼は外！福は内！！！」

Happy New Year!

あけましておめでとうございます。今年もよろしくお願いいたします。ことしも、これからも、って思えるのが夢のようです。みーんなが健康で幸せでいられますように。

おせちも食べましたよ。１２年ぶりに食べる母のおせちとお雑煮。ここでは食材に限りがあるのと、私以外はみんな甲殻類、魚の卵類が苦手なので華がないですけど、お野菜いっぱいでおいしい！私が一番好きなのは、やっぱり栗きんとんかな。

Aren't they pretty?  These key chains are made out of paper ropes.  

縁起のいい水引細工を母の友人にいただきました。かわいいでしょ。実はこれ、子供達がアドベントカレンダーのクリスマスツリーのオーナメントにしてしまいました。それはそれで、とってもおしゃれなツリーになったんです。本当にすてき。

そして、お正月用にはこんなアレンジメント。写真がぼけてますけど。。。

Mama's knit for Christmas.

毎年、クリスマスのプレゼントのひとつは何か手作りのものをあげるようにしています。今年はニット。

I usually make at least one gift for the kids for Christmas.  This year, they got sweaters.  Luther is growing too fast, so you can tell his sweater is a bit big for now.  And, ignore the flower hairpin on his head.  He didn't wanted any photo shoot without it.  With it, he made that handsome, angel smile.  Without it?  holy....crazy.

アマリにはチュニックを、ルーサーにはカーディガンを編みました。ルーサーの成長が著しいので、セーターがだいぶん大きめですね。おまけに、お花のヘアピンをしないと写真を撮らせてくれなくて・・・。こんな事になってしまいました。

二人のリクエストで、アマリのチュニックには「ブーちゃん」。

Of course, Amalie requested a piggy on her tunic.

ルーサーのセーターの背中には「トュマちゃん（くまちゃん）」をメリヤス刺繍しました。方眼紙にデザインしてから刺繍すると、思ったより簡単にニットにお絵かきができてしまいます。

On the back of Luther's sweater, he asked for a teddy bear, surprisingly, not Thomas the Train.  The characters are embroidered on the sweaters.   I designed them on graph paper first, and then I embroidering them, which was easier than I thought. 

クリスマスの日からずっと毎日、アマリがこのチュニックを着てくれていています。「えっ。今日もそれ着るの？」と思ってしまいますが、そんなに喜んでくれて、とっても嬉しいな。

それから、これもアマリにお願いされたバッグです。紺色で、おしゃまさんです。

Amalie has been wearing this tunic everyday after Christmas.  I was kind of was shocked to see she was wearing again today, but really, I'm so glad that I made it.
And, she got this purse as well.  She chose the design and the color from a cute knitting book.  I love navy.

私の母が内布を付けてくれました。実は、これ私のクローゼットで眠っていた黒いシャツ。ニットだとどうしても柔らかいので、内側に布を貼る事でバッグがしっかりします。愛情たっぷりのタグも忘れずに＾＾。

My mom sewed a liner inside.  It used to be my old shirt which was in the closet for years.  By adding a liner, it became more sturdy.  Oh, I can't forget the tag with lots of love:)

Wreath for the New Year.

Traditionally, we need to put up decorations for New Year by Dec. 28th in Japan.  I made a wreath for our front door to bring us a happy and healthy year.  By the way, I am allowed to go outside now.  It was so nice to walk through our garden.

外出許可が出ましたー。念願の外！さっそく、日系のスーパーにおせち料理の買出しに出かけて、午後には、お庭をぶらぶら。そしてお正月のお飾りも作りました。飾り付けるのは２８日までですものね。ぎりぎりです。

材料は、凍えて咲いていたローズ、シダ、セージ、もみの木、バラフライブッシュの葉っぱ、赤い木の実、リンゴの小枝。これでできるかな？ あ、昆布と和紙も。

来年はいい年が迎えられますように。

Santa cookies and Buche de Noel.

I hope you had a special day on Christmas.  I had a really nice and homey one; although it would have been nice if we could go get hot coco at a local coffee shop, or a little walk to the park.  I am trapped inside the house, since my last chemo my blood counts are too low again.  I can't even see anyone except my family.  My family needs to take a shower and change their clothes as soon as they come home before seeing me.  Oh, I miss the outside world.

Well, going back to Christmas day, the kids were super awake as soon as their eye were open.  They ran to check the Santa plate.  Yes, Santa and Rudolf ate the cookies we made.

クリスマス、終わっちゃいましたね。私は前回の抗がん剤治療以来、白血球、赤血球、血小板が少なすぎて体の抗体がないので、人と会うことも許されず外出することも許されず、おうちクリスマスでした。ということは家族も帰宅したらすぐにシャワーと着替えを済ませないと私に近づけないので、無菌室状態です。あと少しのがまん、がまん。

それはさておき、 クリスマスの朝、子供達は目が覚めた瞬間から大興奮。サンタさんが来たかどうか気になって仕方がないんですから。すぐに、サンタさんのおもてなしクッキーのお皿をチェック。今年も食べていってくれましたよー。

Santa brought tons of gifts, too.  Our kids' cheeks almost popped out when they found the things they asked for.  On the Christmas Eve, Amalie even made this special gift bag for Santa to use for her. 

プレゼントもたくさん。お願いしておいた物を持ってきてくれて、本当に嬉しそう。それを眺めてる私達も嬉しいんですけどね。これはアマリが作ったギフトバッグ。時々、部屋にこもってこんなに素敵なのを作ってでてきます。サンタさんにプレゼント入れて欲しかったんですって。

We made a Christmas cake.  In fact, I made bunch of mistakes on this one.  I added cream cheese in both the sponge cake and the whipping cream, the cake became heavy, and the cream became to soft to roll.  In addition, I forgot to add coco powder to the cake, so instead of a brown cake, we had a white one...What is going on with me?

そして、朝からクリスマスケーキを作りました。実は失敗だらけのケーキ。クリームチーズをスポンジにもホイップクリームにも混ぜたら、ケーキは重く、クリームは柔らかすぎて、巻くに巻けなくなってしまいました。おまけに、ココアパウダーを入れるのを忘れて、茶色いケーキにする予定が白いケーキになってしまった。わたし、どうしたのかなー。。。

オレンジ&チーズスポンジとチーズクリームとラズベリーのブッシュドノエル。日本のお友達にいただいたクッキーがとってもかわいいんです。雪を降らせてできあがり。

Merry Merry Merry Christmas!

Wreath rolls.

I added green tea and beets to my usual dinner roll recipe, and it became Christmas wreaths.  It takes twice as much time since I need to make two different batches of bread dough, but the wreaths turned out so cute.  Perfect for little gifts with Christmas cards to hand out to friends or for dinner parties.  I made smaller ones, so the kids really enjoyed the whole wreaths on their dinner plates tonight.

いつものふわふわパンのレシピでクリスマスのリースを作りました。緑は抹茶、赤はビーツのすりおろしたのを混ぜて生地を作ります。２種類作るので時間も手間もかかるけど、やっぱりかわいい！

リボンをかけてラッピングして、クリスマスカードといっしょにギフトにしたり、パーティーのお土産にぴったりです。丸めるのが大変でしたけど、小さいのも作ったらそのまま丸ごと子供達の夜ごはんのお皿の上に。ちぎって食べるよりも楽しくかったみたいです。
